Outline Description of Module

This course helps to build on students’ linguistic knowledge already learned in the home country.  It aims to develop students’ confidence in using English both in the academic environment as well as outside the university. 

Attention is paid to learning the basics of teaching English as a foreign language concentrating on methods and activities to use in the classroom and developing a lesson plan. This module will allow learners to gain a further skill, particularly those may who wish to teach in the future.

On completion of the module a student should be able to

  1. understand the basics of teaching English as a foreign language.
  2. understand the principles of different teaching methodologies.
  3. identify ways of teaching the different skills: reading, writing, speaking, listening (including grammar and lexis).
  4. break down and analyse components of syntax and lexis.
  5. develop a lesson plan.

How the module will be delivered

 

The module will be taught through a blend of live online classes and guided, interactive online tasks and activities, designed to fulfil the learning outcomes. These will be delivered remotely, and on-campus if the University deems it safe and practicable.

THE OPPORTUNITY FOR REASSESSMENT IN THIS MODULE:

Should a student fail to complete or to pass this module, he/she will be offered the opportunity to resubmit a piece of coursework (100%) in summer, for a maximum grade of 40%.
