How the module will be assessed

Students may undertake elements of the work jointly with other students but there will be a substantial individual element and separate individual reports and presentations are required.

1. Every student is required to make an individual oral presentation in week 11 of Autumn and the Spring Semester to the case study supervisor and an internal examiner. The presentation is followed by a questions and answer session.

 

2. Two copies of a bound report must be submitted for assessment in week 11. The assessment of the work will be based on the methodology and achievement during the semester as well as the the written report.

 

3. Every student is required to make an indivdual Professional Development Plan that is to be submitted for assessment in week 9 (Spring)

 

4. Every student is required to submit two bound copies of a report that addresses issue of sustainability. This will be submitted in week 10, and follows a course of lectures. The report will be based on a set marking scheme.

How the module will be delivered

Outline Description of Module

  • To enable the students to undertake a detailed case study/project work as in initial part of an engineering research investigation.

  • To enable the students to plan an investigation, properly considering the time, resources and justification for the work.

  • To develop a Professional Development Plan

  • To enable the students to appreciate the concept of sustainability

On completion of the module a student should be able to

Demonstrate knowledge of the general background of the chosen subject area.

Skills that will be practised and developed

  • Review, in detail, the available literature appropriate to the investigation

  • Design a study to address an engineering issue

  • Detail the methodology to be used and justify the choices made

  • Communicate effectively through an oral presentation, and written report
